Editorial policy

Landlords rely on our documents to get the law right. This page explains where our information comes from, how we keep it current and how to tell us about a mistake.

Who writes our content

Our documents, page copy and guides are written by the LandlordForms editorial team. [set before launch: founder name] (Founder and editor) is responsible for what we publish. Our guides show the date they were published and last updated.

Primary sources only

We base every legal statement on primary sources:

  • legislation.gov.uk for Acts of Parliament and regulations.
  • gov.uk for prescribed forms, government guidance and information sheets.
  • Local council websites for property licensing schemes.

We do not rely on blogs, forums or other commercial websites. Each document page and guide lists the sources it relies on.

How we keep documents current

  • Weekly form checks. Each week we fetch the prescribed forms we use (Form 4A and Form 3A, and the Form 3A legal wording for grounds) from gov.uk and compare a SHA-256 fingerprint of each file with the version we transcribed. If a form changes, we stop selling that document until we have updated and checked it.
  • 90-day reviews. We review every document, rule and data file at least every 90 days. Each page shows when it was last reviewed.
  • Law changes. When the law changes, we update the affected rules, documents and guides, and record the change on the document page.
  • Form versions. Every PDF prints its form version in the footer, so you can always tell which version you used.

Documents that are not prescribed forms

Some documents, such as the written statement of terms or deposit prescribed information, have no gov.uk form. For these, we set out the information the law requires, in plain English, and check it against the legislation. We only sell a document once it has been checked.

Independence

We are a document service. We are not a law firm or a government body, and nothing on this site is legal advice. We do not publish fake reviews or customer counts. Where a solicitor has reviewed a document, we will say so, with their name and the date. We will never claim a review that did not happen.

Corrections

If you think something on this site is wrong or out of date, email corrections@landlordforms.uk. Tell us the page or document, what you think is wrong, and your source if you have one. We check every report against the primary source, correct mistakes promptly, and record the change on the page.
